A wonderfully unusual antique gold chain, crafted in approximately 15ct gold and decorated throughout with a continuous row of beautifully crisp pierced star motifs on two sides.
Each approximately 4mm-wide circular detail is pierced with a tiny six-pointed star, with the design visible from both sides of the chain. The smooth, flat faces of the star links catch the light beautifully, creating little flashes of bright yellow gold as the necklace moves.
One of our favourite details is the gorgeous natural antique patina that has developed within and around the articulated links. The polished star faces retain a brighter gold tone, while the recessed areas have deepened to a warmer gold. The contrast gives the chain incredible depth and texture and is wonderfully characteristic of antique 15ct gold.
At 17.75 inches long, it sits beautifully around the base of the neck and is striking enough to wear completely alone, while still being incredibly easy to layer into a neck mess. The little star details also make a gorgeous backdrop for a favourite antique pendant or charm.
The necklace fastens with its elegant barrel clasp and is in excellent antique condition.
There are no visible hallmarks. The chain and clasp have been professionally tested in several areas using a desktop XRF analyser, with results consistent with approximately 15ct gold.
Its construction, rich 15ct gold and decorative styling are consistent with pieces dating from around the late Victorian to Edwardian period, circa 1890–1910.
