This mesmerizing antique horseshoe nail hairpin is a rare design dating back to the 1800s. Crafted in the form of a horseshoe nail, it boasts 8 dazzling rose-cut diamonds (approx 0.24cts) and 13 exquisite old-cut natural Burmese no-heat rubies (approx 0.76cts). This divine piece is sure to become one of the most cherished items in your collection.

In very good antique condition, the hairpin shows some signs of past repair where the pin narrows, likely due to a previous owner correcting a bend in the nail. The piece has developed a natural patina over time, adding to its historical significance and character. The repaired section, where the patina has been removed, displays a subtle warm gold tone that is not noticeable when worn, as it remains hidden in the hair.

While there are no visible hallmarks, professional XRF laser testing confirms a gold purity between 21-22 carats. The hairpin mostly exhibits a vibrant yellow-gold colour, with a slightly warmer tone in the central repaired area.

The incorporation of horseshoe nails in jewellery became popular during the Victorian era, particularly in the mid to late 1800s. This design combined cultural significance, aesthetic innovation, and the Victorian love for symbolic and sentimental adornment. Burmese rubies, highly esteemed and extensively used in Victorian jewelry, were prized for their beauty, rarity, and romantic connotations. They remain some of the most sought-after rubies in the world today.
