A beautiful antique French cherub medal dating to the Belle Époque, c.1900-1910, crafted in rich 18ct yellow gold and framed by a striking cobalt blue enamel border.
The centre is worked in raised relief with a wonderfully sweet winged cherub resting its head upon one hand, surrounded by delicate scattered flowers. Around the medal is a geometric border of deep blue enamel divided by fine gold lines, giving the piece a particularly vivid flash of colour against the warm antique gold.
The bail bears the French eagle’s head hallmark for 18ct gold, alongside a second mark which is unfortunately too indistinct to identify.
The blue enamel is in excellent condition, particularly impressive for its age, with no notable losses. There are some small dings and areas of wear to the raised cherub, predominantly around the arm, together with light surface wear to the gold consistent with an antique piece. These do not detract from the overall beauty of the medal and are visible in the photographs.
A gorgeous little French Belle Époque piece with the perfect combination of antique gold, vivid enamel and cherubic charm.
